The engineering manager is responsible for overseeing and directing a team of highly skilled engineers and auto cad operators to design and draft electrical controls drawings and various supporting documentationThis manager will report to the operations manager but is a leadership role where the candidate is expected to ensure that engineering requests are completed, on time and by ase’s requirements and standard of qualityThe engineering manager is also responsible for enhancing the engineering quality of services that are being provided to our customers.
The engineering manager possesses high quality standards and a wide variety of skills to address and manage a variety of technical, personnel, and situational challenges that may be encountered within the engineering departmentThe manager will also need to accommodate a flexible work schedule which could involve extensive travel across the region to address customer requests and department demands any day of the week or any hour of the day.
The engineering manager is able to create and read control drawings, wiring diagrams, specifications, and technical scopes and train and direct others to do the same while having the ability to learn and adapt to various customer specificationsThe engineering manager must also be able to communicate effectively with all levels of employees within ase and customer’s including project managers, engineers, and various customer management teams.
Creates and documents internal engineering department procedures that benefit the company overallWorks with all department leads to analyze impacts and create company awareness of changes.
Check the technical accuracy of work as it applies to drawing packages, specifications, and other department created documentation.
Takes input and is responsible for correcting any existing or new engineering techniques and processes that are negatively impacting projects, installations, or production.
Responsible for maintaining a department schedule and meeting deadlines required of the engineering department.
Analyze internal engineering workload demands vs available resources to advise operations manager of work status, workload, problems and progress as related to work assignments.
Hire, train, and mentor other engineers and cad operators.
Write performance reviews and solve internal issues.
Set and monitor goals for the team that are aligned with the department and corporate needs and encourage growth /development and career paths for the team members
Responsible for tracking overhead costs within the department and meeting a set budget.
Regularly reviews project engineering costs, profit margins, and makes improvements to maximize efficiencies within the department.
Confer with all levels of management on various technical challenges.
Seeks approval of expenditures.
Essential engineering duties and responsibilities for projects:
Supervises and leads engineers who design and draft controls systems, support project planning, develop products.
Discuss and layout project specifications for project managers and internal engineers, and cad operators.
Establish good engineering /manufacturing disciplines and promote new ways of thinking that will produce best in class automation drafting and documentation.
Creating bill of materials, part numbers, and miscellaneous engineering paperwork
Review, approve or modify product and project designs.
Evaluate and recommend engineering changes to an existing customer or internal equipment that will ensure maximum productivity, safety, or efficiency.
Is knowledgeable and maintains compliance of iso, iec and ansi standards as it applies to our engineering, customer systems and products or services we offer.
Is a leader and shows expertise in nec regulations as it applies to engineering drafting.
Support’s permitting documentation required for projects.
Coordinates and provides staffing for system standby requirements.
Participate in engineering and general design review as required.
Has a continual improvement mentality to implement necessary changes to meet customer specifications, code, and job-specific scope.
Travel to customer systems to audit, evaluate or support project needsTravel may be required
Essential engineering duties and responsibilities for products:
Direct or support production, quality assurance, testing, or maintenance of industrial controls systems at the request of project managers and operations.
Create detailed documentation including but not limited to design input requirements, specifications, test protocol, installation /service procedures, and validation reports
Supports the improvement of manufacturing processes and advanced research.
Provides research and development of new products and procedures at the direction of others.
Writing and editing instruction manuals
Assist production personnel to define and solve manufacturing/design issues and implement cost reduction ideas with regard to company products.
Essential engineering duties and responsibilities for estimating:
Prepare bids, and scopes as needed.
Supports the drafting of proposals and reports for clients.
Coordinate activities of the department with other departments or organizations.
Interact with customers on engineering design and any questions/problems they may have.
Interact with vendors concerning parts they supply or propose to supply to the company.
Sourcing new components for systems and special projects.
