Job description
What this job entails:
Network automation engineer
Provide second level escalation for network provisioning engineers on all provisioning issues.
Assess and debug provisioning failures, determine impact/urgency of the issue.
Troubleshoot automation workflows and internal tooling and perform root cause analysis on failures.
Develop fixes for reported issues and/or escalate to third level engineering teams.
Provide regular assessments/updates on assigned issues and set realistic timelines for issue resolution.
Routinely analyze historical issues and develop holistic solutions for any areas of deficiency.
Provide regular process improvements by reviewing provisioning procedures and documentation.
Develop and gather technical improvements for automation workflow and internal tools based on self-analysis and from provisioning team members.
Analyze the end-to-end business process flow and propose/develop process and technical enhancements.
Act as a subject matter expert for the provisioning and tooling codebases.
Become knowledgeable about cross-functional tooling usage and the apis provided by each tool.
Complete project tasks as assigned.
Requirements:
Strong knowledge of tcp, ipv4/6, routing protocols, and related network services (dhcp, dns)
Knowledge of network management protocols (snmp, syslog, net flow) and security protocols (ssh, https/ssl, aaa)
Experience configuring and troubleshooting routing and switching protocols, primarily bgp
Expert level knowledge of linux os and provisioning linux hosts
Working knowledge of one or more programming languages: python, perl, c/c++, or go
Extensive bash scripting experience.
Experience as a developer and/or development lead for network automation projects and network tooling.
Working knowledge of vcs software like git/svn/hg.
Experience with automation & ci/cd software using one or more of the following: ansible, chef, jenkins, gitlab, bamboo.
Experience working with hardware vendors, service providers and field installation crews for deployment of either wired or wireless networks.
