Background
Calstart is a national membership organization focused on delivering transformational change in the transportation marketplaceAs the transportation sector is responsible for nearly 30% of carbon emissions, ushering in clean transportation technologies – including low- and zero-emission trucks – has never been more important to meet critical state climate and health goals.
Reaching greater adoption of clean trucks is a key goal of the organization and our state fundersThrough the hybrid and zero-emission truck and bus voucher incentive project (hvip), calstart connects fleets and owner-operators with point-of-sale discounts for new vehicles, incentivizing rapid deployment of advanced technologiesCalstart has managed hvip on behalf of the california air resources board since 2009.
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is key to achieving crucial climate goals, and harmful particulate matter has caused a health crisis in many neighborhoods, including census-designated disadvantaged communities and families living close to heavy truck corridors and portsCalstart is actively working with ab 617 communities to learn about the self-identified needs of key communities impacted by transportation emissions.
Additionally, direct engagement with small owners-operators to drive purchase decisions is crucial to promoting equity and small fleets’ readiness for regulatory complianceTheir participation is key to bringing real change to the communities in which they travel and creating demand in the electric truck marketLikewise, calstart will continue to grow engagement with large corporate leaders who are helping take these technologies to scale.
