We are looking to hire a coverage attorney for our claims department.
Responsibilities
· reviewing and analyzing complex coverage issues and preparation of coverage position letters
· investigation, analysis and evaluation of liability and damages
· supporting and counseling the claims department about coverage issues, strategies, and coverage positions
· preparation of case summary reports related to matters of significant reserve and trial activity
· timely and appropriate setting of case reserves
· development and execution of claim strategies as well as resolution strategies
· negotiation and resolution of cases
· attending trials and mediations
· working with underwriters supporting policy construction and drafting, reporting claim trends, data analysis, and risk assessments
· extensive communication with insureds, brokers, reinsurers, actuaries, and business unit contacts
· attending client meetings and industry functions to support retention and development of client relationships and business
· held accountable, to a very high degree, for the accuracy and thoroughness of departmental records and reports.
Qualifications
· jd and a minimum of 5 years of experience with insurance coverage issues.
· strong analytical and organizational skills
· excellent verbal and written communication skills
· strong negotiation and investigation skills
· ability to think strategically and work independently
· in-depth knowledge of the litigation, arbitration, and trial process
· knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance legal and regulatory environment is a plus
· ability to identify and use relevant data and metrics to best manage claims
· collaborative mind-set and willingness to work with people outside immediate reporting hierarchy to improve processes and generate optimal departmental efficiency
· ability and willingness to present to senior management and other group settings
· occasional travel
· remote opportunity with occasional travel to home office (metro-detroit) or mediations/trials.
