Full job description
Iso restaurant gm looking for a life
Looking for someone who has sweated behind the line, sweated over the books, sweated more shift changes than you can countSomeone who has apologized to the dining room when the kitchen crashed but was also the person you “had to know” to get a table on a saturday nightWe know you have to live it to get it - that’s why we don’t hire salespeople who have to learn about restaurants, we hire restaurant people who are open to a new craft and their next chapter.
If you’ve run a restaurant, you know how many emails, phone calls and rep drop-ins you must sift throughYou also know that most of what they are pushing isn’t worth the time to hear them out.
We are different - and we only hire people who viscerally appreciate how sacred time in a restaurant gm or owner’s schedule is -and also know that what we are telling them about is worth their time to listen.
While we are a dc-based company, we are looking for new members of our sales team to be based in san francisco, san diego, washington dc, houston or dallasWhile this is currently a work-from-home position, when covid is in our rear-view mirror you will be calling on restaurants in your area in person - bringing donuts to restaurants, trading restaurant war stories and adding a whole lot of empathy to the conversation.
Oh yeah, we also offer hours that don’t involve 2am inventory followed by opening the restaurant the next morningYour phone number will not be on our “call out” list and you will largely work when the rest of the world does - which is, dare we say, freaking awesome.
Pay: $50,000 base salary + uncapped commission
Marginedge: a workplace with purpose.
You know that feeling when you have a mind-blowing experience at a restaurant? it wasn’t really about the food (okay, it was a little about the food) but more about the way you feltYou might not be able to put your finger on what part you liked most, but it was magic and you know you will be back.
Spoiler - not a single piece of a restaurant experience is an accident and as a team built by former restaurant operators, we know just how freaking hard this is to pull off.
At marginedge our mission is to serve restaurant operators with the same energy, attention to detail and passion that they bring to their guestsOur culture is deeply rooted in service, partially because that’s where so many of our team came from, but also because we believe it is just the right way to run a businessOur software is designed with deep empathy for the complexity of running a restaurant and our mission is to make the magic just a little easier for operators by taking the complex (read: very annoying) back-office tasks off their plate, while empowering them with real-time data.
We do this through the development of cutting edge technology that solves truly (truly) hard problems, data science that can start to answer questions for operators where gut instinct used to be their only tool, and world class service that is an extension of who we are as an organization.
Our founders share a deep history in both owning and operating restaurants and in building successful tech companiesWe are venture-backed, serve 2,500+ restaurants and boast a 93+% client retention rate.
We enable restaurants to make magic while knowing we are doing the same for them.
Role:
From your home office, you’ll contact restaurant owners across the country to excite them about our platform and “help us help them.” our goal is to give restaurant managers and owners daily visibility into their prime costs, so there are no surprises at the end of the month.
Generate your own business (we are making great strides with lead generation, but that will be the gravy, you make your own steak)
Execute discovery calls or meetings (listen), then a web-based demo (listen some more and talk a little bit).
Adhere to predefined activity metrics (includes calls, emails and visiting restaurants).
You stay organized because you are serious about using our database platform (salesforce) every day.
Have to haves:
You are a former restaurant general manager or owner with 3+ years of experience (bonus points for experience with a national or regional multi-unit restaurant chain)
Admin duties and professional, succinct writing skills are requirements, perhaps higher than in your past restaurant positionsA writing sample will be required.
Following your career running restaurants, you are open to your next career- a craft different than your previous, but a craft, nonetheless.
Shifting from restaurant ops to sales, you’re still happy to work 50-55 hours / week, but would be ok doing it during traditional business hours.
We are growing quicklyThe people we hire today need to have both sales skills and the leadership skills to run a small sales team within two years.
Respect for process, personalization, and relevance
You love being a part of a team, every day we say, “we win together” (yeah it sounds corny when we say it but we say it anyway)
You love restaurantsEverybody loves restaurants but you really love restaurants.

What’s it like to work for marginedge?
Imagine the fun of a great restaurant - surrounded by a team of people that care about hospitality, care about quality, and care about each other - then subtract the long nights, weekends, drunk customers at the bar...et voila, marginedge!
We work hard, we work fast and we fuel our work with a commitment of transparency from leadership, straight talk and trust between teamsWe believe that the best people do their best work when they feel empowered - so whether you are remote or in our office (likely eating a catered lunch from our clients) you get to work with your manager to call your shot on what works best for you.
And surprising exactly no one, we are obsessed with restaurants so most water cooler talk (virtual or irl) will probably be about the pasta at our new client’s spot in the city or the burger we just can’t get off our minds from lunch last weekIn addition to being so dynamic, we stay grounded in embracing a flat organization with robust opportunities to engage with c-suite members about any topic you have in mind.
