The geophysical monitoring system (gms) project is a large-scale development effort to re-engineer the primary system used by the us national data center (us ndc) for the air force technical applications center (aftac)The successful candidate will work from developed requirements, specifications, and architectural design for the new systemWe are seeking an outstanding database engineer professional who wants to be part of the vibrant team that is developing the next generation system in a collaborative, agile environmentAs a member of our team, the selected applicant will enjoy innovating and collaborating in an engaging learning environment to architect, design, develop, test, and deploy advanced software for complex, real-time decision support systemsThis position may require occasional travel.
On any given day, the selected candidate may be called on to:
Work on agile development teams
Design new database schemas, interfaces to new and legacy databases
Prototype, design, and implement database solutions, which can include data warehousing, for effective operation of mission enabling or direct mission information systems data management and processing.
Prototype, design, and implement software, tools, and processes to ensure data integrity; data access and security; data distribution and possible replication; data integration; and backup and recovery of data, including disaster recovery.
Prototype, design, and implement tools and techniques for monitoring and tuning database performance
Collaborate with the customer to better understand legacy databases and future integrations
Collaborate with other development teams regarding integration with the larger system
Demonstrate commitment to deliver and persistence to resolve issues
Qualifications we require
Bs in computer science or computer related field
5, or more, years related database experience
Demonstrated experience in oracle database design, development, and management
Experience with automation and scripting in linux
Ability in the following areas:
Understand and work with new and emerging database technologies
Knowledge of database security
Develop database stored procedures and triggers
Develop tools, utilities, and procedures to automate maintenance functions
Plan and install database software and database systems
Develop database reporting utilities and capabilities
Translate customer’s information systems data processing and management requirements into a database solution
Define and develop tests for verification and validation of database solutions and installations
Hardware and operating systems, system architectures, and network infrastructures
Can obtain a doe q clearance
Qualifications we desire
Experience with devops including gitlab, kubernetes, docker experience
Experience in python or java
Experience with postgress and cassandra databases
Strong interest in an architecture role focused on:
Specifying high-level designs for system features, software frameworks & infrastructure, deployment platform, development tooling, etc.
Providing ongoing guidance to development teams
Working closely with development teams to iterate on software designs
Experience as a software developer
Technical leadership experience, technical team lead, architect etc.
Experience with distributed system design
Familiarity with data storage architectures (relational, non-relational - e.gDocument, wide-column)
Strong teaming skills
