What your job will be like
Are you passionate about solving challenging issues for the nation`s security? do you love taking things apart to learn how they work? if so, you may be the highly motivated mechanical technologist we seekYou will work with key partners across the neutron generator (ng) enterprise to support electromechanical test equipmentOn any given day, you may be called on to:
Work under the direction and oversight of a lead mechanical engineer.
Review mechanical designs using 3d modeling tools.
Coordinate prototyping activities to ensure all hardware, software, personnel, documentation, and safety reviews are prepared.
Write technical documentation, such as test plans, operating procedures, or hardware schematics.
Maintain safe and efficient r&d operations of a tester development laboratory.
Qualifications we require
Bachelor`s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
Ability to obtain and maintain a doe q clearance.
Qualifications we desire
Active doe q clearance.
Demonstrated ability to hold to project schedule while delivering technical results.
Experience setting up benchtop tests and problem solving emergent issues.
Experience conducting research & development activities, including design, fabrication, testing, and analyzing results.
Knowledge of 3d modeling tools such as creo (preferred) or solidworks.
Demonstrated ability to write technical documents, such as work instructions, test plans, operating procedures, and product definition.
Proficiency in microsoft word, microsoft excel, and microsoft powerpoint.
Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and formal presentations.

Position information
This limited term employee (lte) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at sandia`s discretion up to a maximum of seven years.
Individuals in lte positions may bid on regular sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
