What your job will be like
Are you passionate about mechanical engineering and dream of utilizing state-of-the-art facilities to explore solutions? do you want to join a dynamic team and apply your technical skills towards challenges with impact to national security? if so, you are one of the r&d mechanical design engineers we seek.
We are seeking an engineer to support magnetics modeling for our stronglink solenoid designsThis work entails developing fea models of prototype actuators to predict the impact of design changes, use these modeling results and collaborate with mechanical designers to assess margin to performance requirements and seek design changes, help determine the impact on part tolerance on performance, and find creative solutions to other electromagnetic challenges our prts face.
As part of the surety mechanisms group, you’ll help craft unique solutions for the design and development of mechanism components-components that play a critical role in assuring the safety and security of our nation’s nuclear deterrent in a wide range of scenariosIn this role, you’ll collaborate with engineering and research teams across the broader nuclear security enterprise to design, produce, and assess these mechanically intricate components in assemblies consisting of over 100 custom-designed and built piece parts.
On any given day, you would be expected to:
Provide virtual prototypes of surety components.
Utilize advanced modeling tools to solve complex engineering challenges.
Analyze data in support of design, production, and stockpile assessments.
Develop new methods for surety component assessment.
Promote judicious test strategies that increase understanding while reducing risk and cost.
Identify vulnerabilities and support failure analyses.
Document analyses rigorously.
