Summary of essential job functions
Sierra7 is seeking an experienced data scientist to support the department of veterans affairs (va) and office of information & technology (oit)Oit and ois are chartered to provide robust cybersecurity protections for veterans, va information, and va information systems, and infrastructureVa depends on information management/information technology (im/it) systems and the capabilities inherent in information security systems and platforms, to meet mission goals given today’s cyber security threat environment, the evolving attack surfaces, and the variety of cyber-attack techniquesThe va is looking to use robotic process automation (rpa) to automate lengthy, repetitive, manual information security risk management (isrm) processes which consume hours of time each week to completeThe attention spent on these tasks unnecessarily takes isrm staff away from high priority, compliance-related duties while also increasing the likelihood of human error and/or missed deadlines due to the manual processes involvedBy deploying rpa solutions to automate these tasks, isrm can use bots to conduct these tasks with minimal activity from isrm staff and reallocate resources to higher impact efforts to better support isrm’s assessment and authorization activities.
As the data scientist, you will develop machine learning, data mining, statistical and graph-based algorithms to analyze and make sense of datasets; prototype or consider several algorithms and decide upon final model based on suitable performance metrics; build models or develop experiments to generate data when training or example datasets are unavailable; generate reports and visualizations that summarize datasets and provide data-driven insights to customers; partner with subject matter experts to translate manual data analysis into automated analytics; implement prototype algorithms within production frameworks for integration into analyst workflows.
The data scientist shall possess the following capabilities:
Develop experiments to collect data or models to simulate data when required data are unavailable
Develop feature vectors for input into machine learning algorithms
Identify the most appropriate algorithm for a given dataset and tune input and model parameters
Evaluate and validate the performance of analytics using standard techniques and metrics (e.g., cross validation, receiver operating characteristic [roc] curves, confusion matrices)
Oversee the development of individual analytic efforts and guide team in analytic development process
Guide analytic development toward solutions that can scale to large datasets
Partner with software engineers and cloud developers to develop production analytics
Develop and train machine learning systems based on statistical analysis of data characteristics to support mission automation
