Role summary/purpose:
The avp, principal software engineer craves getting into the weeds of hard problems and figuring out how to make things workThis dynamic and collaborative role will be part of synchrony’s digital consumer center servicing platform and will act as the technical lead for our digital platform team.
The principal software engineer will architect complex business solutions by partnering with business and technology leaders to understand key challenges as well as produce process flows and system interaction diagrams to help drive these solutionsIn short you will be responsible for realizing the vision and goals developed by the leaders and deliver high quality, customer scale solutions that are maintainable and flexible for our customers.
This position is remote, where you have the option to work from homeOn occasion we may request for you to commute to our nearest office for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and culture eventsWe’re proud to offer you choice and flexibility.

Essential responsibilities:
Lead development teams through all phases of the agile development life cycle
Design solutions to business needs by documenting systems, data, and business logic of an end-to-end business process.
Lead the application team towards our microservice/cloud native design architecture.
Influence and collaborate with software developers, ux designers, product managers, application architects, and customer application experts to create amazing apps
Ensure compliance with architecture, security and technology standards set by synchrony
Develop technology and business architectures for all states.
Participate in agile scrums consisting of cross-functional teams
Participate in addressing root cause analyses, incident reports and provide direction in problem resolution
Ability to analyze production defects, troubleshoot systems, identify root cause, and implement fixes
Provide 24x7 on-call support periodically throughout the year
Passionate about the latest technologies, open-source projects and languages
Identify ways to increase efficiency and improve system performance
Work with third party vendors to develop software and/or integrate their software into the company`s products
Qualifications/requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related degree and a minimum of 5 years of application development and architecture experience or, in lieu of degree, high school diploma/ged with 7 years of experience with solution architecture experience.
Minimum 7 years of experience working on complex systems integration
Minimum 7 years of working on a cross functional team
Minimum 10 years of experience in java development
Prior experience in java spring boot, microservices architecture, json, rest, and xml based web services
Desired characteristics:
Familiarity with modern web front end frameworks like reactjs
Working knowledge of the overall mobile industry including ios, android and mobile web
Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with technical and non-technical peers
Strong cross-functional team player with the ability to work seamlessly across a matrix organization
Desire to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment
Strong attention to detail in a team environment
Strong oral and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to analyze, use structured problem solving and available tools to troubleshoot systems, identify root cause, action plans, impact and resolution options
Eligibility requirements:
You must be 18 years or older
You must have a high school diploma or equivalent
You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process
You must be able to satisfy the requirements of section 19 of the federal deposit insurance act.

The salary range for this position is 70,000.00 - 150,000.00 usd annual
Salaries are adjusted according to market in ca and metro ny and some positions are bonus eligible.
