The hartford financial services group is seeking a highly creative and passionate data engineer with experience working in a dynamic and broadly defined roleThe candidate will join our growing data science community supporting health services as we develop innovative solutions to expand our product offering and services.
The data engineer will partner closely with business leaders and expert resources to design, develop and implement data assets for a wide range for new initiatives, including providing data and insights to estimate the value of potential strategiesThis candidate will bring with them a creative solution design approach to data exploration and discovery and the ability to work in an iterative, collaborative way to balance the solution with the technical outcome.
We seek candidates with a strong understanding of data architecture and data warehousing, coupled with strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, and business skillsThis role combines business and technical skills involving interaction with business customers, data science partners, internal and external data suppliers and information technology partnersThis is a highly visible and client facing role that will regularly interact with c-level executives at the hartfordThis role is a great fit for someone who is bored with a traditional role and likes to think outside the box.
Responsibilities:
Provide innovative business solutions and data assets by partnering closely with business partners, data scientists, and data suppliers to analyze source systems, define business requirements, provide quality data and assist in high level data analysis.
Perform ingestion, extraction, cleaning, integrity testing, integration, and mapping of data across multiple data assets within the hartford.
Partner closely with enterprise data and technology teams to understand, build, and troubleshoot issues with data pipelines.
The senior data engineer will support the health services team’s mission to provide customers with integrated group benefits and p&c claims offerings and reduce overall insurance cost by developing fee-based onsite and virtual injury prevention services.
Perform data analysis to ensure continued quality and identify areas of opportunity to improve or enhance existing processes.
Evolve and maintain a position as a subject matter expert and data advisor, defining business requirements, providing data assets and assisting in high level data analysis.
Minimum experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in related field required
5+ years etl / data integration experience
Proficiency with python to build data pipelines for analysis.
Experience with etl concerning meta data management, intermittent data checks throughout a process, data validation.
Nice to have:
Experience with cloud (aws) technologies (i.eS3, emr)
Experience with big data technologies (i.eHadoop, spark, hive, etc.)
Knowledge of insurance claims, operations, medical/healthcare data and analytics
