Responsible for composing and rolling out the global requirements and strategies to all programs by assisting, execution, and evaluation of fan and high voltage fan motors using bill of material (bom) managementGuidance and support for designs, analysis, development, testing and control of fan cooling systemsThis includes brushed, bldc, ev, and fuel cell driven fansExtensive knowledge of high voltage and its usage in fans systems requiredCreativity and initiative are involved as well as a high level of independent judgmentA good understanding of the internal workings of electric motors, airflow curves, and fan laws is a mustConsults with technical leader and peers as requiredSupports the technical leader for future and current technology and implementation of oem fan systems worldwideKnowledge of lin and other control strategies is also requiredSupport for global fan quality, reliability and durability (qrd) activitiesResponsible for the strategy of component sharing and design enablers.
* leads global bom technical solutions for current, new and major programs
* creates global design guidelines and requirements for fan and fan subsystems
* maintains upc/fnas
* approves statement of requirements (sor) and maintains the sor technical documents
* maintains global template system dfmea’s, best practices, icds, component timing template
* supports global supplier technical assessments and peer reviews
* provides technical direction for advanced technology development
* assures that best practices and system requirements are followed
* supports component and vehicle level testing and/or development programs
* communicates, coordinates, and consults with global engineering departments, customers and suppliers
* stays abreast of new technology and competitive products and rolls out technology to the dre’s as needed
* supports fan warranty with problem solving and reporting
* travels as required
* supports purchasing strategy for fan modules
Required experience:
5 years of post graduation engineering experience required
Demonstrated technical and professional skills in fan design including sizing, fan laws, fan law curves, electrical circuits, pwm and resister controls, software control methods (knowledge of lin controller strategy and high voltage is a required) and production methods
Demonstrated technical and professional skills in fluid dynamics
Demonstrated technical and professional skills in supplier management and purchasing strategies
Experience managing fan suppliers in technical deliverables for hardware, testing and systems integration
Experience in the creation and execution of common component upc/fna bom strategies
Experience in fan component testing and development.
Demonstrated technical and professional skills in front end airflow (feaf), amca, nvh and vehicle level testing and validation as it related to fans
High level of oral and written communication skills
Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical fan mechanisms.
Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals.
Specific knowledge of engineering discipline (e.gChemistry, mechanics, physics, metallurgy, manufacturing methods, electronics, software, control systems) within job-related area.
High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex.
Dfss black belt/red x knowledge
High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
Candidate should have one of the following engineering degrees: bse, mechanical engineering, metallurgical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, engineering mechanics, aeronautical engineering, civil engineering, physics, materials engineering
Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle on a daily basis
Ability to travel as needed (5% max)
Preferred qualifications:
Ideal candidate will have experience in at least one of the following areas:
Automotive fan production - including brushed and brushless fans and fan blades
Automotive fan sealing
Fan sizing – for vehicle level performance.
