Responsibilities
Working as a senior wireless network engineer in the it security and networking division of the office of information systems management (oism) for the national institute of standards and technology in gaithersburg, md, your primary responsibility is to administer, support, optimize, and troubleshoot components of the nist wireless network to ensure high levels of availability and securityThis includes design, deployment and ongoing support of the enterprise wireless network controllers, access points, cisco prime infrastructure (pi) management software, and cisco connected mobile experiences (cmx).
Perform standard configuration, management, and maintenance tasks for related systemsReview system log messages regularly and address any abnormalitiesReplace aging equipment as defined by a 5-year equipment refreshment planPerform and test system configuration backups and restores to ensure system recovery from error or outageReview and deploy system releases and vendor-supplied patches according to best practicesAnticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on all systems.
Collaborate in the identification of critical requirements and information technology management practices, challenges, and solutionsThe incumbent will participate in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with oism goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications
Basic requirements:
This standard allows eligibility through meeting either the requirements specified in the section titled education or the requirements specified in the section titled experience.
Education: all academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions
Undergraduate or graduate education: degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
Experience must be it related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, it certification), as appropriate.

Specialized experience:
In addition to the basic requirements, applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the gs-12 level (zp-iii at nist)Specialized experience is defined as experience: installing and configuring cisco wireless lan controllers, wireless access points, and managing a cisco wireless network using cisco prime infrastructure and cisco connected mobile experiences softwareProject management experience.

In addition to meeting the basic requirements and the specialized experience requirements, applicants must have a current/valid cisco ccna certification and current ccna wireless (or cwna in lieu of ccna wireless certification)? a copy of your current/valid cisco ccna or ccna wireless certification or cwna must be submitted in your application package.
