As a result of our strong business growth, this integral role within the leadership team of virgin pulse engineering is availableThe candidate will be a good fit if they align with our organizational focus on customer centric efficiency, long term thinking, and passion for technologyThis specific role focuses on overseeing and giving direction within our devops and site reliability engineering (sre) teamsThis candidate will have a love for cloud technologies, scaling applications, communicating and establishing best practices, leadership, and wanting to be involved in building a world class engineering organization.
In this role you will wear many hats but your skills will be especially essential in the following:
Managing the day-to-day operations, within the vp platform engineering group, encompassing the delivery of engineering projects, and the maintenance of platformProviding project management/directorship to deliver demanding and technically challenging projects on time.
Experience leading teams focused on architecting and delivering micro services that are consumed by engineering teams.
Experience leading teams focused on quality assurance and quality practices.
Experience with data ingestion technologies and processing.
Experience delivering solutions with cloud automations
Championing both services and quality services culture amongst engineering.
Developing and mentoring the skills and expertise of engineering resourcesAcquiring talent and supporting high morale of the team.
Establishing and aligning department objectives and monitoring of ongoing progress and performance
Providing business line reporting to senior leadership as required (i.eReporting on engineering activities on a regular basis, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of relevant metrics / kpis, including velocity, budget vsActual spend, etc.)
Working with the senior leadership team regarding which engineering projects are the highest priorities against the business targets and which can be executed with the available resourceEnsuring the engineering group meets budget and other financial objectives.
Ensuring effective communication between staff under management and other departments to facilitate exchange of information and implement change and improvements.
Establishing and maintaining operational relationships with all functions in engineering, as well as international counterpartsActing as the representative of engineering team for communicating with – and supporting – external stakeholders, including gc sales / marketing, key clients, third party vendors, information security and compliance, and with other vp departments.
Qualifications: what you bring to the team in order to represent the best of what we have to offer, you come to us with a multitude of positive attributes including:
Educational qualifications in an engineering related discipline
6+ years of experience in managing engineering department budget encompassing both platform operation and human resources
Commercially and financially astuteExperience in managing multi-million+ budgets and engineering business / operational plans, including roi-driven planning and cost-benefit analysis.
Experience of operating and influencing at a strategic level
Proven project management experience in driving long-range complex projects to completion under challenging deadline
Experience in setting long term strategic direction for engineering department that resulted in high performing engineering teams
Experience in relationship management with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and external suppliers
Strong software development, quality assurance and saas platform operation experience, with demonstrated success in having delivered excellent results for the engineering department, including measurable results in operational control, change management protocol, risk mitigation and site reliability, efficient and high quality coding practice, and a high degree of automaton vsManual qa test composition.
Proven ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements
