About the role
This is an amazing opportunity to be leading a platform engineering team in a high-growth, high-potential startupIn this role, you will be responsible for growing and scaling a team of talented software engineers across the us and indiaThis individual will collaborate cross-functionally within all levels of the organizationThe successful individual will have a proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams of software and data engineers and can get in the trenches and code if needed.
What you’ll do
Lead the platform and data engineering teams across zageno
Set the technical direction for the team, work closely with platform architect and senior data architect to drive the evolution of the systems architecture, and make appropriate technology choices
Focus on the development of core micro-services and shared components that impact multiple product teams and help improving development efficiency across the organization
Be passionate about the long-term stability, scalability, and reusability of shared services.
Work with software architects to define platform engineering and data engineering roadmaps
Build trusting relationships and collaborate cross-departmentally to align with internal stakeholders and prioritize based on business needs
Recruit world-class engineering talent and participate in the recruiting flow including attracting, screening, and closing high caliber candidates, in individual contributor and management roles
Manage the delivery of software using agile best practices including continuous deployment, continuous integration, and test-driven development
Implement processes and metrics to ensure that the team is extremely efficient and focused, and is helping improve the efficiency of product teams.
Enable a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation, and excellence while continuously elevating the quality and caliber of our engineering organization
Managing multiple teams in the us and india
Influence and mentor team members and cross-functional teams to produce highly scalable software solutions
Effectively communicate technical plans and help all stakeholders navigate changes
About you
Bs in cs or equivalentAdvanced degree is a plus
12+ years of software development experience
4+ years of experience in following technology stacks: messaging queues (kafka, sqs, kinesis), nosql databases (elasticsearch, hbase, cassandra, mongodb, couchdb), real-time ingestion systems (apache storm, apache flink, kafka), big data offline processing systems (apache spark, hadoop), search technologies (solr, solrcloud, lucene, elastic search, vespa)
4+ years’ experience working in data engineering, ml ops, or software engineering
3+ years’ experience managing data professionals
Expertise in tools, vendors, and best practices surrounding data warehousing and data lakes
Familiarity with machine learning concepts, particularly validation and testing of ml models
Distributed programming experience in working on distributed systems like databases, distributed file systems, distributed concurrency control, consistency models.
Knowledge of technical excellenceYou know continuous delivery, testing, security practices, performance, and observability.
Expert design and debugging skills in a distributed computing environment
Demonstrable ability to convey technical specifications to engineers and non-technical audiences
Deep background in data structures and algorithms
Excited about leading by examplePlayer / coach mentality
Experience in as many of the following areas:
Building containerized applications (docker)
Building applications in a micro services architecture
Working with networking and security protocols (https, ssl, certs)
Designing/developing rest, grpc, and graphql apis
What sets your apart
Have led teams using event-based microservices architecture
Previously worked in the ecommerce space.
Have developed advanced algorithms leveraging state of the art machine learning technology to tailor a personalized search experience
Have built data pipelines to facilitate ml ops / ml flow
