We are looking for a self-motivated, experienced level mechanical engineer with strong interpersonal skill and leadership potential who will thriveThe position is in the data capture solutions (dcs) division, part of zebra technologies’ evm (enterprise visibility and mobility) businessDcs products include innovative bar-code scanners, scan engines, rfid readers and interactive kiosks, and solutions to meet customer’s data capture, asset intelligence and automation needsThe candidate will primarily lead mechanical development of new products, mentor less experienced engineers, collaborate on functional or cross functional process improvement.
This position is available in the holtsville, ny officeIt is a hybrid roleResponsibilities:
Analyzes voice of customer (needs/problems), and marketing requirementsDefines mechanical and environmental requirements accordingly.
Creates opto-mechanical concept to meet product requirementsUses system knowledge to analyze tradeoffs and provide recommendations.
Plans and leads all mechanical activities throughout the plm phases, including design reviews, mechanical schedule, and cost estimateIdentifies risks and mitigations.
Ensures a robust design through structural, thermal and tolerance analysis via hand calculation and finite element simulationExercises dfm, dfx principals for high yield mass production.
Communicates requirements with vendors and suppliers through 3d cad and 2d drawingsDocuments clear functional specification of the assembly for manufacturing process and fixture development.
Validate design through structured test plans and design of experimentsOversees execution of tests and experimentsReviews results and trouble shoots failures.
Identifies and corrects root cause of failures and issuesMay create new tools or process to tackle sophisticated engineering problems in creative and effective ways.
Maintains knowledge of newest technology and design techniquesProvides guidance to and reviews work from less experienced engineers.
Qualifications:
Minimum requirements:
Bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution in the u.s.
5+ years of product design and development experience.
Proficient with mcad (e.gCreo), gd&t, statistical quality control, dfm/dfx.
Experience in designing injection molded plastics, zinc or aluminum die cast parts is desired.
Preferred requirements:
Background in one or more of the following technical areas is a plus: opto-mechanical system, kinematics, rugged handheld device, mechatronics.
Preferred master`s degree and 4 plus years experience.
Strong motivation to succeed and good track record of setting and meeting goals.
Concise verbal and written communication skills.
Team leading experience is a plus.
